Nobita and the New Face of the New Year is a New Year's themed episode.
Plot[]
It's New Year's Eve, and everyone in the Nobi residence are preparing for the annual New Year’s Eve festival in the center of town. While looking for a plunger to help clean the bathroom (since they decide to do some general cleanup around the house before the festival), Nobita stumbles upon a strange-looking plunger in his room, where before he uses it, Doraemon quickly snatches it away. He explains that it is one of his gadgets, the Face-Paster, which he is taking back to the future so that he can get rid of it, since it is recently been banned and recalled from use in all time periods by the Time Police. Nobita's curiosity gets the better of him, and he secretly takes it from Doraemon (along with substituting it with the regular one he found) before he leaves to the future for a brief time. As he gives the gadget a full look around, he accidentally gets it stuck on his face, which copies his face pattern onto it. Tamako then enters and asks for the plunger since the toilet got clogged in the bathroom (which Nobita forgot to finish), where she mistakes the Face-Paster for an actual plunger.
Despite Nobita's warnings to her, she takes it to the bathroom and tries to unclog using the Face-Paster. Unimpressed with it’s performance, she tries to give it a look to see if anything is wrong with it (while also dismissing it as something dangerous) but accidentally gets it stuck on her head in "paste" mode. This pastes Nobita's face on top of her face, where she (now a copy of Nobita in personality and mannerisms) is surprised by his face being on his mother's body and standing beside himself. Nobita himself tries to undo the damage to his mother, but before he can "Tama-Nobi" (his transformed mother’s nickname) realizes after seeing people playing in the snow that everyone should be exactly like Nobita and attempts to stick it on Nobita's own face again. Nobita manages to barely escape outside, but his father who just got back from the store is then face-pasted by Tama-Nobi. Nobita then rushes to get help from his friends, and quickly gets Shizuka and Suneo together on the situation. Meanwhile, Doraemon returns to the past in a hurry to find the Face-Paster but manages to escape from both Tami-Nobi and runs off to find Nobita.
Elsewhere, Nobita gets all his friends minus Gian together in the playground, but both Shizuka and Suneo do not fully trust, let alone believe Nobita's explanation. Gian suddenly appears but is shown to have been face-pasted by the device and gives chase with the Face-Paster. Everyone is (obviously) able to outrun "Gian-Nobi" and evade him but discover that more and more people are transforming into face-value copies of Nobita and seem to do what the real Nobita does (lazing down in his room, hanging by the playground, playing soccer, etc.). The gang takes refuge at the school, the one place Nobita does not like to go to, where they meet a rather furious Doraemon who barely evaded capture earlier. He explains behind clenched teeth that the device copies and pastes one’s face ontop of another’s as seen with the townspeople, but states that the device must have malfunctioned after his mom drenched it with water, causing it to distort the clone face’s personality. However, he notes that they "won't cause any harm" since Nobita does not harm anyone, along with noting that they can’t leave the town to take over the rest of the world as his geography skills are so poor. He does note that there is a "reversal switch" on the gadget, but they only have until exactly midnight to reverse it or the effect becomes permanent on whatever it is used on. They then notice that the New Year's festival occurs that day, and that all the “Nobita’d” people would most definitely be attending the festival.
After camping out at the school until 8:00pm (the time the festival starts), the gang split up into groups; Nobita and Suneo go to the festival in disguise, while Shizuka and Doraemon check through the homes to find the device in case it was left behind. While at the event, Nobita notices that he was right; the entire place is full of people with his own face on them. He then sees that one of them at the event has the Face-Paster and tries to warn Suneo before noticing that he has been face-pasted already. He tries to escape the festival but is knocked out by Tama-Nobi. After waking up at around 11:55pm, where he notices that his friends are all face-pasted, and they tie Nobita up in his chair as they let him watch as the permanent change occurs in front of him as the countdown to the new year begins. Right as the clock hits 0, Nobita wakes up to find that it was all a dream, the Face-Paster didn't exist at all and that everyone is waiting for him to wake up as he missed the big countdown to the new year. Nobita lets out a big sigh as he leaves to rejoin his friends and the start of a new year.
